Lets start out by saying that for every one good thing said about affiliate marketing ten negitive things are said. Those are pretty bad odds if you ask me.

Affiliate marketing is a monstrosity of a business. The fact is most prominent businesses on the internet use some form of affiliate advertising today. This is obvious. So how can it have such a bad reputation? Well I have an idea why.

I believe it’s how affiliates market for companies and of course some of the companies are frauds in themselves. Some companies or affiliates will say “you will get rich overnight with little or no work on your part.” This is a form of trickery and deception. If you are in the affiliate business, I shouldn’t have to tell you that this isn’t a good thing to promise your prospects. You want to build your reputation, not destroy it. Every business owner knows you have to work hard and invest time to gain real results. So Maby If we all yell, kick, and scream loud enough all these companies and false promises will disappear. I doubt it. Are they going away? Not anytime soon.

Of course someone new to internet marketing won’t know the difference between a legitimate company and a fraudulent one. So it’s up to those of us who already been through it and know what to look out for to give fair warning. It’s up to us to make a positve influence on affiliate marketing as a whole and help restack the odds in our favor. By showing ourselves to be good moral internet citizens and helping others reach their goals the right way, the honest way. If we do this I know we will be successful and proud to be called an affiliate marketer.

So be careful not to get caught up in the whirlwind of internet marketing. Picture it in the likeness of a black hole that will suck all your money, time, and energy and leave you with nothing. I believe this is why so many affiliates give up so easily, and leave with a bad impression. It’s difficult to recoup from such a powerful unexpected onslaught.

But there is still hope, There are still some of us who care enough to take you by the hand and guide you through this complex maze and show you what the true meanning of affiliate marketing is. It’s being dedicated in helping others succeed, it’s being honest with yourself and building a good reputation as well as the reputation of affiliate marketing as a whole. Most affiliates put a redirect link directly to their affiliate
product. It is not such a good practice.

*Register a domain that closely resembles your affiliate product
website.

For example, if you are an affiliate for affiliateproduct.com
web site, try to register affiliate-product.com or affiliateproduct.net.

*Follow the lay-out of your affiliate product web site.

*Put content on your web site (minimum of 10 pages). Like articles
and reviews related to your affiliate product. No need to say to put up
links leading the visitor to your affiliate web site.

*If you have a multiple different affiliate products, don’t mix them up
and put all of those links on same web site. Choose a multidomain host
and host your different affiliate web sites for cheap.

2. Your Own opt-in list:

You need your own opt-in list **no matter** what you sell and your own
or your affiliate product.

Start giving free ecourse or an ezine related to your affiliate product
and collect email addresses.

You need a follow up autoresponder or a maling list manager to manage
this process of collecting emails, follow up, sending promotional emails
etc. etc.

3. Your Own Ezine articles:

Yep! You have to spread the word about your affiliate product. Don’t You?

Do a search on Google or Altavista like ’submit+article’, you will get a
big list of sites. Keep your favorites on your Favorites folder and submit
to them on regular basis.

Few tips in writing ezine articles in the affiliates perspective:
=Don’t expose your affiliate link directly in your resourcebox.
=Usually affiliate links comes as long URLs. These tend to breakup.
So use some kind of redirection.
=Only promote one product in one article.

Not every affiliate program is good to joined with. There are some factors that determine whether the affiliate program is good or not.

First factor is demand.

Find a profitable market before you take any affiliate program. With a bigger market size, it will be easier to promote your affiliate products. Go to freekeywords.wordtracker.com and try to find a product that has a lot of searchers in the net.

Second is a commission incentive. Don’t take any affiliate program that pay you 5% to 20% for digital products. You will earn more if you promote an affiliate program that gives 50% or more commission for each product sold. There are a lot of affiliate program who give more than 50% for commission.

Third is sales letter. All you need to do to promote an affiliate product is by referring people to the publisher’s site. Then you just hope that the customer get convinced by the sales letter and then buy the product. So you need to choose an affiliate product that has a good sales letter. I have been accused of being a tiny bit obsessive about affiliate marketing. Of course, I prefer to think of it as being really sincere and dedicated. I must, however, confess that I do dream about affiliate marketing.

Sometimes my dreams are happy dreams that are filled with successful affiliate marketing campaigns and money flowing into my bank accounts. Sometimes there are multitudes of grateful students adoring me and my expertise. But sometimes the dreams are affiliate nightmares.

The other night I had the affiliate marketer?s worst nightmare. Maybe it was the taco and/or burritos, but whatever caused the nightmare is something I would really rather never repeat.

In my nightmare, I was surfing the Internet and came across a n affiliate Internet marketing product that I thought would sell like hotcakes. I was so impressed that I just KNEW that I could promote the product to my subscribers and that it would be so beneficial to them that they would practically trip over one another to buy it. I even had a vision of a killer AdWords campaign that was converting at 1,000% ROI.

In my nightmare, the merchant didn?t answer my email. But I was so confident about the product, and my affiliate marketing expertise, that I decided to promote it anyway. I couldn?t find any blogs or forums about the product or about the merchant, but heck, it was so new that nobody was talking about it yet ? right? I was in on the ground floor!

It still looked like a lovely affiliate marketer?s dream. That must have been when the burritos kicked in.

I wrote my AdWords advertisements for this amazing product without any problem at all. Then I loaded my autoresponder with a hot promotional email and hit the ?Send Now? button with a ton of confidence.

Then I logged into my affiliate stats and was amazed at the rate at which orders were flooding in. 100% conversion! Every single click through resulted in a sale of this miraculous product and some customers were buying three or four at the same time. Wow!

That must have been when the guacamole rubbed the burritos and tacos the wrong way.

Suddenly, I was being inundated with demands for refunds. I?m not talking just a couple of unhappy customers. ALL of the customers were unhappy and they were all mad at ME because I had recommended this lousy product to them. They all swore they would never buy anything that I recommended ever again for as long as they lived.

Thank goodness my alarm clock rang? I got out of bed, went to work, and vowed never to eat spicy food that close to bedtime again.

I vowed to do something else, too ? to always do my homework about any and every product and merchant that I recommend.

Just because a product looks like the ?next big thing? doesn?t mean that it is. And just because a product turns out to really be the ?next big thing,? that doesn?t mean it will be all that easy to sell.

When you come across a product with tremendous potential, always do the following:

1 - Read up on the product ? not just on the merchant?s website, but on independent review sites, blogs, forums, and other electronic avenues. Find out what people are saying about the product, both good and bad.

2 - Contact the merchant and inquire about selling his/her product as an affiliate. Find out what the merchant will require from you, and read through the merchant?s affiliate agreement before you sign it.

3 - Don?t lift a finger to sell the product unless a) you actually get a reply from the merchant (duh!); and b) you are willing to accept the merchant?s terms as outlined in the agreement.

4 - Above all, make sure the product fits with your target audience. It won?t matter how hot you think the product is if potential customers think it leaves much to be desired. One good way to gauge this interest is to prepare a short white paper about a new product you just discovered, offer it for download, and measure the level of response.

If something seems too good to be true, it sometimes is. However, so long as you do your research and bear in mind the needs of your customers, the ?dream product? you find can indeed sell like hotcakes ? and make every day feel like Cinco de Mayo!

Selecting the right affiliate program upfront can save you time and money. Here?s how I look at selecting the right affiliate program.

Most affiliate programs will pay you a commission on the sale of an item; however, some will pay per lead or per click. This information can help you choose between programs. You may think you will earn more with a pay per lead plan, as it may be easier to get someone to click on ad versus buy a product. However, you could earn more by promoting a product that pays per sale. For instance, if you get paid $1 per lead, you will need 100 people to take action to earn $100. If you get paid 10% commission on a 100 product, you only need 10 people to take action in order to earn the same $100.

When comparing affiliate programs, don?t be fooled by simply comparing the commission rates; a commission of 20% on a $50 product is $10 while a commission of 50% on a $10 product is only $5. You will earn more by promoting the product that pays a lower commission.

If a product is priced too low, you will have to sell a lot of that item in order to earn a decent commission, and if a product is priced too high, there may not be enough people willing to pay for it. When choosing between affiliate programs, try to find a product that is moderately priced ? not too low and not too high.

Different companies will have different ways of completing your payments. Some may require you to earn a certain amount before they will send you payment; some may only pay at certain times of the month. Know what their rules are before you spend a lot of time promoting a product.
